South Bend, IN: The Bethel Men and Women secured the top spots at the Pilot Invitational on Saturday, April 19, 2025, after a dramatic finish over the 36-hole tournament. The Men’s Team finished second, the Women’s Team won.
Men’s Team: Kumfer Wins Medalist Title After Team Playoff Loss
Junior Jonah Kumfer fired rounds of 71,73 (E) to lead Bethel into a team playoff with Spring Arbor after both squads finished at 16 over. In the five-player playoff, Spring Arbor edged Bethel by one stroke on the first hole to take the team title.
Kumfer then regrouped to win the individual title in a the individual playoff, defeating Bailey Marquart of Saint Francis on the second extra hole.
Also contributing were junior Aaron Pasqualone (80,68, +4), who finished sixth, and sophomore Earl Williams (74,75, +5), who tied for seventh. Freshman Myles McLaughlin (78,76, +10) placed T15, and senior Jimmy Bunner (77,79, +12) finished T20.
Bethel’s B team was led by senior Gage Brown (81,76, +13, T24) and sophomore Andrew Hedrick (82,77, +15, 30th). Junior Matthew Wingate finished T34 (79,84, +19), such as Sophomore Abraham Guernsey (86,77, +19).
The Pilots wrap up regular-season play Monday, April 21, at the Sagamore Shootout hosted by Indiana Wesleyan.
Women’s Team: Aigner Leads Wire-to-Wire
Freshman Izzy Aigner carded a 5-over 149 to capture the individual title and lead the Bethel women to a team victory.
Freshman Karisa Dyer (77,76, +9) finished fourth, while graduate student and co-captain Aynslee Myer (78,79, +13) tied for fifth. Megan Bishop (78,82, +16) placed seventh, and junior co-captain Selah Unwin (82,80, +18) rounded out the top 10.
Sophomore Ana Toro, competing as an individual, shot 89,94 (+29) to finish T16.
The Pilot Spring Invitational marked the final event of the regular season for the Bethel women.
